  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

  • 2 cups half-and-half cream
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 teaspoons cold water

  • Instructions

    1. In a 5-qt. slow cooker, combine the potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, and green pepper.
    2. Top with the beef bratwurst slices.
    3. Combine the chicken broth, salt, basil, and pepper; pour over the top.
    4. Cover and cook on low for 7 hours or until the vegetables are tender and the sausage is no longer pink.
    5. Stir in the half-and-half cream.
    6. In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch and cold water until smooth; stir into the stew.
    7. Cover and cook on high for 30 minutes or until the gravy is thickened.
